i loved his goodness and gentleness; yet also, his ability to deliver a Good Roast to someone when they sorely needed to hear it. i loved his playfulness and humour with the others , (“oh ye of little faith”), and his friendship with jasper.
i loved all this heart of his but also his head; because not only was he emotionally intelligent, but brilliant in other ways too. he was sharp and ingenuitive, and had an ability to see logic where others couldn’t, like when he wasn’t even mad when he found out clarke hadn’t put him on the List in season 4. in fact, he understood.
I loved his selflessness and ability to do what was necessary; like when he programmed a lever to take down a mountain of people. like when he killed his own mother to save octavia. however– although he did those things– he was unlike anyone else on this show, in that he refused to become comfortable doing the Morally Grey. when everyone else had fallen down that slippery slope, he tried harder than anyone else to find another way. he never wavered from his ideals, no matter what life put him through. he always believed a better world was possible. no matter the fact that he lost his best friend, his parents, his home, his people, his partner, and finally– when he put him in cryosleep– his son.
i loved that monty green was a farmer; from the very beginning to the very end. he grew weed for fun and algae to save lives. he tried to grow peace, and when that didn’t work, his last act was to sow the seeds for humanity to start again. when earth turned out not to be it, he cultivated the better world he had always dreamt of elsewhere. he didn’t live long enough to see it flourish, but that was okay with him. his son would. his friends would. and that was all that mattered.
