Holiday Self Love Tips
The holidays can be extremely triggering to some. Spending more; talking more; socializing more; eating more; sleeping less. Remember: you come first!
- Morning Routine: Stick to it. This is your time!
- Personal Advent Calendar: Everyday, give yourself a present; a simple treat! You beat the day! You rock!
- Walk: Don’t jog. Don’t run. Don’t do a marathon. Just walk around and take in nature
- Bake/Cook: Even if it’s premade frozen dough or a box kit, it’s fun! Frost the cookies. Lick the batter from the bowl. Be a kid again.
- Say NO to Spam: Don’t give your email address out to merchants online or at the cash register.
- Don’t Stress: Say NO to friends and family if any event or idea can potentially harm your mental health and recovery.
- Decorate: Yes! Do it! Your room, house, car, office space, smartphone background, notifications and ringtones… and your self: hair, nails, make up, clothing, cologne, perfume. Have fun! Splurge on stuff you like and decorate your life!
- Holiday Scented Candles: get some cheap scented candles, light them up, turn off all lights in the house, and watch some TV! Or, put them all in the bathroom and take a candlelight hot bubble bath!
- Eat well: you are what you eat. Garbage in = Garbage out. Balance healthy foods with Holiday treats so you are not killing your metabolism.
- Stick to a Budget: Don’t blow all of your money! Make a dollar amount for each person in your life. Don’t go over that!
- Budget “Unscheduled” Time: there will be “surprise” visits from family and friends, spur-of-the-moment parties, etc. Schedule time for these events, if you want to go to them. And, if you don’t, you now have extra “me” time. It’s a win-win!
- SLEEP: Even if it’s a 20 minute power nap in the car on your lunch break.
- Write: Emotions run high during this time of year. Write them down. Ignore Grammer and Spelling. Your life is not LIT101
- Restore: buy a gift from your local Goodwill or second hand shop. And restore it back to it’s beauty. It’s meditative. Regift. Restore!
- Forgive and Apologize: it is not a weakness. It is a strength. Accepting your faults is part of self care.
- Hiatus: we will be bombarded with people left and right. Take time to find balance. Take a break from Social Media if needed. Vice versa, take a break from friends and family.
- Blessings in Disguise: we all have our own issues; our pain, scars, sacrifices, compromises. Our recovery is unique to ourselves. There are others worse off than you; worse than me, too. Some won’t see December 2018. Keep on fighting. You are not alone. You making it, fighting it every single day is a blessing.
